I make kinetic sculptures, giant objects, mobiles, abstract art, paintings, functional art, rolling ball machines and more. My work has been featured at many museums, art galleries, over 40 books, and countless times on TV and in movies.curatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11968539067534222623noreply@blogger.comBlogger202125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1296892470687520681.post-79064804056969104582019-05-10T12:26:00.002-07:002019-05-10T12:27:47.450-07:00Artist Bruce Gray's squished paint on glass paintings

This one has 3 layers of glass, and 2 layers of paint. This photo is just a close up on about 10 inches of the painting. I have to say, I am diggin' the patterns.
Here is a still from Black Monday on Showtime featuring my sculpture Nucleate. (Season 1, Episode 4) This scene shows off the entire piece quite well. It is getting a lot of exposure already, and will be on as a regular feature in Maurice Monroe (Don Cheadle's) office. The show is really well done and the actors are great. I am very psyched to be part of it in a small way. The funny thing is that I sold that sculpture to Modern Props over 25 years ago, and I had no idea they were going to be using it for Black Monday until I saw a promotion for the show. Check it out on Sunday evenings.
Here is my finished wall sculpture "Red Dot #3." It is 44x44x4, and made from steel, disk brushed stainless steel, and hot roll steel plate. I used copper and various combinations of patinas, as well as red, black, gray, and holographic paints. The fun part of this type of sculpture is that it is meant to evolve and change as the rust spreads and deepen in tone, and the patinas continue to develop. There are three hidden mounting holes covered by parts held on by super strong neodymium magnets.
Last weekend my brother came by and we were outside grilling up some burgers for lunch. I am on dozens of meds for chemo etc, so I don't know what caused this, but I had a spontaneous hallucination. At first there were glowing purple batches of orbs floating around, but then everything turned bright white. Not just sort of white, but powerful gleaming INTENSE white that glowed on the trees, chairs, plants and everything else in my yard. It was so bright, it was almost hard not to squint my eyes. My brothers body was about 80% glowing white, and I was thinking that this was possibly the last few seconds of my life, and that this was the bright light people who come close to dying see. The experience was nearly half an hour total, and was not brought on by any hallucination causing drugs. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I sort of feel compelled to try to paint what I saw so I can share the experience, but I doubt I could even slightly do it justice. One of the most bizarre, confusing, and yet beautiful experiences in my entire life.

I am loving my new motorcycle! This is my 4th bike, and I have over 7 years riding experience in snow, rain, offroad, and even a very close call with a tornado. That being said, I haven’t been on a bike in around 28 years. Since I am now a “biker” again, I am getting the fellow rider waves and head nods. For those who don’t know, there is quite a lengthy and complex range of biker waves and of course there are those who only wave to folks with either the same brand bike, or only other cruisers, or race rockets or some other common element. There are also novice waves that will drop your street cred quicker than a Ducati. When I was in freshman year in college in 1979, I was living in Fall River, Massachusetts and got around on a Honda 550 Supersport. I was riding once and got the low five biker wave from a member of the Sidewinders motorcycle club on a beautiful fully chopped Harley with apehangers and an awesome flames paint job. In the bike hierarchy, Harley riders often ignore Japanese bikers, and even moreso, bikers wearing their colors almost never wave to “civilians” on any bike. Well, I was kind of flattered, and always thought the low 5 wave was the coolest form of interbike communication. I hadn’t really thought about this until I started riding again a couple of weeks ago, and have noticed the low 5, or just low wave is very popular here in California. Yesterday I put a mirror in front of my bike, sat on it and practiced my low wave for a couple of hours. I think I am ready to try it in public now, but never to scooter riders, trikes, Vincent riders, or bikes with smaller engines than my badass 300 Honda Rebel. Since my bike is all blacked out, it is hard for people to determine the brand and size, and it is a really nice looking bike. This means that people may wave to me by accident, who would not normally wave to a small Honda. That’s OK. I will wave back.
